The European network for light ion hadron therapy (ENLIGHT) is a multidisciplinary platform aimed at a coordinated effort towards ion beam research in Europe. ENLIGHT was established in 2002, and today has more than 400 participants from twenty European countries. A major achievement of ENLIGHT has been the blending of traditionally separate communities so that clinicians, physicists, biologists and engineers with experience and interest in particle therapy are working together. EC projects successfully completed under the ENLIGHT umbrella include PARTNER, ENVISION, ULICE and ENTERVISION.
